Protect New Mexico’s Fresh Water

New Mexico is the most water-stressed state in the nation, on par with the United Arab Emirates, the 10th most water-stressed country in the world. As of 2021, 86% of New Mexico’s population was affected by drought.

Yet, the state of New Mexico allows the oil and gas industry to use vast quantities of our fresh water resources for fracking.

To protect New Mexico’s fresh water, the state must: prohibit the use of fresh water in fracking when produced water can be used instead.
