Don’t let the oil industry spread its toxic fracking waste in New Mexico.

Oil production generates more than four barrels of toxic, radioactive waste for every barrel of oil. That’s over 2 billion barrels of waste each year. Oil companies have been injecting this waste underground, but this causes earthquakes. They are running out of places to dispose of their waste.

To solve their waste problem, oil companies want to dump their treated waste on our land, into our rivers and streams, and even use it to water non-food crops.

There’s no proof that this is safe.  Oil and gas waste can contain over 1,400 different toxic pollutants, and we don’t even know how to test for many of them. The research is still lacking, and more studies are needed to determine if it can be treated and reused safely.

Our Water Quality Control Commission had already decided that toxic fracking waste cannot be safely reused—but the oil industry and the Governor’s office are trying to undo those protections. Let your government know: you say “NO!” to toxic fracking waste in our rivers!
